Starting to build

compose.us is creating a new product
Published on 2023-10-11

Hello y'all!

We are compose.us, a small team of developers creating web applications and teach teams to build and maintain them as contractors. Essentially, we are building products for clients. In the future, we want to work on our own set of products and what you're reading here is the kick-off of this process. While we still prioritize client work, we set aside some time every week to work on our own product.

Since we're mainly developers and like contributing to open source projects, it makes sense to us to build our products in public: Sharing knowledge about product development can attract business for our core agency. So even if our products end up as catastrophes regarding sales, this will not be a disastrous outcome for us as a company.

The product

Our first product is going to solve a technical challenge we face quite often. Users need to upload documents or images to a web application through a form. While this is usually not a big issue, it's a UX challenge if the user has the specific document or image on a secondary device. Do they send it to themselves as an email or through a cloud storage provider before being able to finish the form on their primary device? Can they use Airdrop or something similar to do this?

We have different ideas on how to solve this in a user centered way and we will explore and share them with you while we're working on this. To keep you in the loop, we will provide regular updates.

Follow our journey

Starting now, we will be sharing our progress with you every two weeks. This will allow you to witness our project's development, from the first idea to a maintained and sellable product. Join us as we build, offer your feedback, ask questions and be a part of the journey.

Follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn for all the struggles and challenges we're facing while building. Maybe we'll add a newsletter at some point, so you won't miss anything. We're happy to receive some GDPR conforming recommendations from you!

Please use our GitHub discussion board to send us those comments or reach out to us through Twitter or LinkedIn.

Cheers,
